"Season of the Bear, Volume 1: American Black Bear" 60 minute program
People ask us what is it like to see a wild bear. First your heart falls out onto the trail. Then every sense is alive, hearing, smell, sight. You instantly try to visualize escape routes – for the bear not you. If that bear has a way out and away from you, he will not feel threatened, and chances are, he will feel secure and not chase. This 1-hour documentary program is surprising, entertaining and educational for the whole family! See wild black bears up close and personal, eating, sleeping, playing, nursing and just being bears. This program includes a section on black bear physical characteristics that is completely illustrated with bears. We show adults, sub-adults and cubs. See tiny cubs in the den with their mother, bears in wild cherry trees, oak trees, and other nut trees. See two adult bears squaring off in a walnut grove. See little cubs playing with each other. Learn how these bears live and how they survive. Learn what to do if you meet a wild black bear. Learn the danger signs of aggression in black bears. Learn how to help bears not be nuisance bears. Representatives from the U.S. National Park Service, the U.S. Geological Survey, and various state Department of Natural Resources offices tell us how they help bears and help people understand bears. See bear research teams at work. We show the history and evolution of black bears, black bears in the four seasons of the year, and we show how we can learn to live with bears. Information provided by several agencies, organizations, and bear experts proved extremely valuable in the updating of regional population and statistics and current efforts in black bear conservation. The nature footage for this wonderful video was obtained from Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Louisiana, New Mexico and Colorado. Some of the other animals and birds shown in the four seasons are coyote, barred owl, raccoon, elk, pileated woodpecker, whitetail deer, hummingbird, and wild turkey. For deer lovers, there are some wonderful scenes of bucks in summer and autumn, running, leaping and clashing antlers. We also show whitetail deer in the winter snow. And we include wildflowers for each season too. But the bears take center stage here. These wild bears let us into their private lives. Much research, years of field trips, and a passion for wild bears went into the making of this video program. Our mission is to promote a better understanding of black bears, their behavior and their habitat. This program contains beautiful music, including original Cherokee flute. While there is a lot of information here, we think we have achieved a very beautiful and artful (and at times dramatic) nature presentation. Much of the four seasons section contains only limited narration with beautiful music and the sounds of birds. This program is suitable for all ages, and is non-violent. Contributors:

Very unusual photography:
The first two bear programs were photographed and researched over a period of 8 years in the field. Although these black bears were found in the Appalachian Mountains, all black bear behaviors and facts are indicative of American Black Bears across the continent of North America, with the exception of specialized foods that may be particular to certain locales. All bear behavior is completely natural and as observed. No bears or other animals were hurt, baited, fed, or harassed in any way in the making of this documentary. No trained bears were used. With the exception of a mother bear with newborn cubs, all bears in this documentary are wild bears and were filmed in their wild environments. No guides were ever used - we did this on our own! This nature program is for all ages, and non-violent. Available in DVD that contain menus and chapters for easy navigation. This is a DVD nature documentary because it informs, educates, illustrates, enlightens, and all in an entertaining and thought-provoking manner; and if there is a story or two told along the way, that's great. We come away with a little more knowledge and understanding, and ideas about the importance of conservation.
