The Great White Egret, also called American Egret, is frequently found on Refuge lands. It is a species of heron, large, with a yellow bill and black legs and feet. This wading bird feeds on frogs and little fish in shallow water, and insects on river banks. The biggest threat to this bird in the U.S. in 2008 is loss of wild habitat. It can live 23 years in the wild.
