SPECIAL EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT!
THURSDAY, JULY 16, beginning at 7:30 PM THURSDAY EVENING:
Dr. Jayne White, a professor in the School of Education and Child Development at Drury University in Springfield, Missouri, will talk about the importance of getting children outdoors.
Janis Brannon, a science teacher and outdoor programmer for Summit school will present highlights of their successful outdoor education endeavors.
Clayton Lopez, speaking from a parent’s perspective, will share a simple, yet exciting, outdoor experience he had with his young son. His story illustrates the benefits derived from an "outdoor moment" in the natural world.
"Muddy Sneakers" will present an interesting and informative look at activities they make available to schools and other organizations.
John Bryant, a young ministerial student from the Duke Divinity School, will briefly relate how his parents were so influential in getting him involved in the outdoors and helping him formulate a deep appreciation for God and nature.
Adam DeWitt of the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association will explain some of their "Nature-Oriented Parenting" resources available for children, parents, grandparents and schools.
Interactive dialogue will be encouraged and it is hoped others will contribute some their successful endeavors and ideas regarding children and nature. Organizations are invited to display information related to their roles dedicated to nature-centered and hands-on activities for children and families.

FRIDAY, JULY 17
MORNING:
10:00 – 2:00 PM: Jackson-Macon Conservation Alliance will lead a hike to Panthertown
10:30 AM: Wild South will host a field trip to the newly designed Gorges State Park
AFTERNOON:
1:30 PM: Appalachian Bear Rescue will provide a unique and hands on learning opportunity for young children centered around getting to know black bears.
EVENING:
7:30 PM: Curtis Blackwell and the Dixie Bluegrass Boys will provide a evening of traditional and familiar mountain music. ($7.50 adults)
9:00 PM: Doris Mager, "The Eagle Lady," will host an "owl prowl" that is open to all ages.

SATURDAY, JULY 18
SATURDAY MORNING:
10:30 – 11:15 AM: Rob Gudger presents “A Mountain Man and His Wolves,” with live wolves
11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Kate Marshall, of Kate Marshall Graphics, a wildlife documentary producer/director specializing in bears, presents “Seasons of the Black Bear,” a presentation about black bears in the wild, including characteristics, foods and habitat, aggression and bear safety, research and nuisance bears, and what bears are doing during the four seasons. Kate will show wild bears on video, and take a few questions afterwards. Her award-winning bear DVDs will be available for sale at the event and on the website at www.covebear.com.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM: Appalachian Bear Rescue will provide bear activities for very young children for parents who are watching the black bear show next door.
12:30 – 1:30 PM: LUNCH BREAK!
SATURDAY AFTERNOON
1:30 – 2:25 PM: Doris Mager, who has been tirelessly working for the conservation and preservation of American raptors (birds of prey) for more than 35 years. She will present a terrific wildlife program, “Live Raptors.”
2:30 – 3:20 PM: Bill Lea, a world-famous photographer, will present “A Celebration of the 75th anniversary of Great Smoky Mountains National Park” and will show samples of his beautiful photography.
2:30 – 3:30: Patrick Brannon, Head Naturalist of the Highlands Nature Center, also presents “Learning More About Birds,” including a bird watch and walk.
Because of the limited number of participants that can be accommodated on field trips and in the young children's bear programs, all field trips and the black bear programs for young children will be limited to 20.
